Bits, Bytes & Bots – North Atlanta

Some of Bits, Bytes & Bots programs and classes include:

Intro Game Creation
If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be. Your imagination is the limit as you use GameMaker software to create maze, strategy, and a variety of other types of games. You’ll learn about creating sprites, objects, events and actions. Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game. We’ll teach you how to display health, lives, score, splash screens and high score tables. Using drag and drop programming, you’ll be creating exciting, professional looking games you can play with your friends.

Advanced Game Creation
Delve deeper into GameMaker techniques.  This class is for those already familiar with GameMaker who want to take their game creation skills to the next level. We will examine gravity, platforms, bosses, levels, effects, scrolling rooms, GML (GameMaker’s built in programming language) and learn how to keep expanding our skills.
Intro to Computer Animation
In this class students will learn how to create their own short animated stories, or cartoons. Students will learn how to draw objects, animate pre-made models, and use timelines and layers.
After the animation is complete, movie editing software will then be used to add titles and sound.
At the end of class, students will be given a CD with all the animation projects the class has done. This class is great for anyone interested in art and computer animation.
Stop-Motion Movie Making
A Brick film is an animated film that uses LEGO® characters and pieces (as well as other manipulatives) to tell a story. If you’ve ever wanted to direct your own movies or like making up stories, then this camp is for you. Using cameras, animation software, and video editing software, you’ll create multi-scene movies with transitions, titles, credits, sound effects and narration. Design your own set with backgrounds, characters, and scenery.
Roaring Into Robots (with LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT)
This exciting class teaches you how to program the newest LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robots, the coolest robot available. You will use your new skills to meet such challenges as moving objects, defeating obstacles and beating your opponent at a Sumo battle. This class will introduce programming concepts such as repeat loops and if/then statements, and sensor use will also be taught.
