SoS! School on a Shoestring (Cathy Canen/Writing Strands) – You can teach your kids for less money than you think. More money doesn’t make for a better education – the school systems prove that. For 15 years, Cathy taught her kids for less than $100 per year. The SOS! method works for all learning styles and follows the classical education model. Let Writing Strands and the SOS! method make your home school a little simpler and a little cheaper. (Room 102)

The Struggling Reader (Kristen Eckenwiler/The Struggling Reader) – Does your son or daughter seem to be struggling in their efforts to read? Based on current research, Dr. Eckenwiler & his wife have designed materials that empower parents to better understand the reading process, as well as their child’s specific areas of need. Parents will not only better understand the reading process, but will be equipped to test their own child in those areas most critical to reading success. Armed with information about your child’s unique strengths & weaknesses, curriculum materials are offered that target areas of need. (Room 104)

Understanding Teaching and Learning Styles (Debbie Strayer/Co-founder of Homeschooling Today Magazine) – Our goal as homeschoolers is to teach as effectively as possible, so it can be stressful when the lessons we teach aren’t understood, or our children seem frustrated. Come to this workshop to learn how to overcome obstacles that may limit your ability to teach, and your children’s ability to understand. Shared with humor and honesty, Debbie will provide tips that can help your children achieve their greatest learning success. (Room 105)

Teaching the Jr and Sr High School Sciences at Home (Kyle McManamy/Apologia Educational Ministries, Inc.) - Learn how any parent can help his or her children learn science at the upper levels. By the time a homeschooled student reaches high school, both the student and the parent should be able to learn by reading. Thus, we admonish the parent to learn the subject right along with the student. With both the parent and the student helping each other learn, an upper level science experience can be equally rewarding for both! In order to help the homeschooling parent plan his or her science curriculum, this session provides study timelines for both the science-oriented and the non science-oriented student. In addition, Kyle also discusses the mathematical skills needed in order to maintain the proposed timeline. Finally, the session discusses the curriculum that will make it possible for the homeschooling parent to provide a quality high school science education for his or her children. (Room 106)

The Lost Discipline of Scripture Memorization (Fred MacKrell/SkillRite Publishing) – Dating back to the days of Moses, God’s people were commanded to hide God’s words in their hearts, and they were commanded to teach this discipline to their children as well.  Our 21st Century lives seem too busy for us to memorize God’s word, and yet this lack of discipline leaves us defenseless against evil forces, both natural and supernatural. We will explore methods and resources that may be used to help us regain this lost art of Scripture memorization, and we will take a practical look at the need for tomorrow’s leaders to be.
